*  Headed Advanced VoIP Private Limited (AVPL), a software company that develops, supports and maintains Customer Care and Billing Solutions (CCBS) for various telecom applications including Voice, Data, VoIP, WiFi, WiMAX, CLEC, WLL, LL and Long Distance and International (LDI) operators, having over 300 customers in 40 countries around the globe.

 

*  Restructured AVPL and formulated an aggressive growth strategy to increase revenues by 400% and managed to achieve and further enhance a multimillion dollar company valuation many-fold paving the way for venture capital funding.

 

Chief Operating Officer

Link Direct International (Mobilink-Orascom Company), Islamabad, Pakistan.

  February 2005 – April 2006

 

  Setup and headed the largest private sector Long Distance and International (LDI) company in Pakistan. Managed deployment and operations of NGN/Soft-Switch based network carrying commercial int’l traffic for 12 million Mobilink GSM subscribers.

 

*  Assisted with setting up of 75 million dollar nationwide fiber optic back-bone in Pakistan. Recommended ways to enhance existing and add new revenue streams to Mobilink business: VAS/Data/Broadband/MVNO (GPRS/Edge/3G/HSDPA/WiMax).

Sr. Project Manager Mobile Satellite Systems (THURAYA)

  January 1998 – April 2002

 

  Played an active and decisive role in leading Ericsson/Hughes/Boeing team (200 engineers/developers) to achieve Final Acceptance for THURAYA - a billion dollar GSM based GEO Mobile Satellite System project for Middle East.

 

*  Actively managed Thuraya Ground Segment 300 million dollar contract through development, integration, testing, acceptance and implementation phases (PDR/CDR/FAT/CTO/PA/FA) as well as service provider related business planning and development activities leading to on-time and successful completion of the project milestones.

  

*  Led NSS/OSS/CCBS (55 million dollar Network Switching Subsystem/Operations Support System/Customer Care & Billing System) development and O&M on-site 100 member team through PA, CTO and FA phases and actively managed Network Configuration, subscriber provisioning/billing & OJT (On the Job Training) for Thuraya Primary Gateway in U.A.E.

 

*  Established and maintained effective communication with all parties/organizations associated with the MSS projects (prime contractors/sub-contractors/teaming partners/end users/ consultants), including generating weekly/monthly/quarterly reports and attending project review meetings, as necessary to ensure on-time completion of the project milestones.

 

Principal Engineer Mobile Satellite Projects (THURAYA)

Hughes Network Systems, Germantown, Maryland, USA. (Jan 1998 – Oct 2000)

 

 

*  Managed 55 million dollar NSS/OSS network elements for THURAYA Primary Gateway as NSS Procurement Leader. Led the project management activities for all NSS/OSS elements – MSC/VLR, HLR/AuC, EIR, OMC-S & SMSC with the sub-contractor (Ericsson). Ensured compliance to the design specifications and managed design/development and reviews (PDR/CDR). Managed NSS FAT and integration with Hughes Ground Segment hardware/software, including Data/Fax.

 

*  Managed and conducted weekly/monthly/quarterly progress updates and project reviews with Hughes, Ericsson and Thuraya design teams. Provided advice/support/solutions for such technical issues as network configuration, GPS based region handling, numbering/routing, billing, legal interception, VMS, SMS and IN (Intelligent Network) features.

 

General Manager Telecom Projects

*  Managed and rendered professional advice for Arfeen’s different telecom projects including TeleCard Wireless Payphone Network, PDSL-Pakistan Data Services LTD (Supernet), Pakcom LTD (Cellular), SMR-TRS, Voice Mail and Paging.

 

*  Spearheaded planning, installation, testing, commissioning and implementation of TeleCard Wireless Payphone System (WIPS) - a WLL project based on Nortel’s TDMA digital Wireless Access and state-of-the-art Network Management technologies (NT DMS100 Switch and NT400DR RBS).

 

*  Acted as the primary interface with Pakistan Telecom Authority – Regulator, Pakistan Telecom Company LTD. and Frequency Allocation Board for processing all the necessary permissions and leasing (domestic/Int'l) circuits/interconnects. Coordinated planning, implementation and commissioning of telecom networks with multi-national contractors like Hughes, Ericsson, Siemens, Nortel and Qualcomm.

 

*  Assisted in network planning and implementation including infra-structure support (sites, layout, network & user premises equipment), delivery and installation of different network elements for PDSL’s full featured Data network, offering Data, E-Mail, Internet (PPP/ SLIP), Store & Forward Fax/Telex using X25/Frame Relay switches/access nodes over VSAT.

 

National Manager Operations

Paktel Limited, 68-E Jinnah Ave, Islamabad, Pakistan.

April 1990 ‑ March 1995

 

*  Headed Engineering Operations, Development and INA (Irregular Network Access) dept. of Paktel LTD (a Cable & Wireless company), the leading cellular Operator in Pakistan, operating AMPS system (Ericsson AXE-10 MSC/RBS equipment).

 

*  Established the entire mobile network and subsequently headed efficient operations & maintenance, planning & development activities of Paktel's Cellular Mobile Network (4 MSC-NW, 30 RBSs, 9 cities). Planned & implemented Centralized Cellular Network Operations: alarm, billing & traffic handling, customized Auto Roaming & complex data-voice network features.

 

*  Developed and managed business plans/budgets, technical staff training, interconnects agreements, transmission media leases and frequency coordination proposals. Acted as the primary technical interface and team leader for the operators, service providers, equipment suppliers, contractors and government agencies.

 

Technical Support Manager

Norsk Data Pakistan (Pvt.) LTD., F‑8/4, Islamabad, Pakistan.

*  Directed & managed technical support activities including installation & maintenance of Norsk Data super-mini computer hardware/software and wide range of peripherals at 12 sites; studied, designed & implemented complete data communication solutions; designed and conducted domestic and foreign technical training. Invited and evaluated quotations and assisted in the preparation of business development proposals.

 

*  Headed ZiCom Data Systems (Sep 1998 – Mar 1990) –  a data communication solutions company, supporting Norsk Data. Acquired biding/procurement experience and managed company's financial, marketing and technical functions. Achieved single handedly the deregulation of data communications equipment in Pakistan in 1989 (even before the deregulation of Cellular and Paging).

 

Systems Training Engineer

*  Developed and presented CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) advanced training courses (including PMX-integration of soft libraries with actual circuits) and incorporated customer feedback into Daisy's training curriculum.
